It’s Almost Here: MISSING MOM’S Official Release
I admit it. It never gets old to welcome a new book I’ve spent long hours working on. Tuesday, January 14th, MISSING MOM’S official release day, is just three days away. Even though this is my sixth novel, the thought of holding a copy in my hands still makes all those hairs on the back of my neck spring to attention!
I’m especially excited about this book because I pushed myself to try something new for me, which was to tell two stories from different time periods that turn out to be related. Here’s a brief description:
Never mind the circumstantial evidence. Seventeen-year-old Noelle, an aspiring ballet dancer, doesn’t believe her missing mother would ever have committed suicide and undertakes her own investigation.
Meantime, Noelle is dealing with her growing romantic feelings toward Ravi, her best friend and fellow dancer, as well as her worries about why her little sister is so reluctant to visit their dad.
Threaded throughout the novel is also the story of Savannah, a young woman nearly twenty years earlier whose escape from an abusive marriage turns out to be related to Noelle’s investigation.
I’ve been touched by the nice things folks have said about MISSING MOM. Midwest Book Review said in part: “Lynn Slaughter’s remarkable book invites readers to immerse themselves in a narrative that beautifully captures the essence of struggle and triumph. The heroine’s journey is not just a tale of personal challenges; it reflects the resilience we all possess.”
I’m also so grateful to all the folks who’ve helped, encouraged, and supported me in this journey: Nancy Schumacher and Caroline Andrus at Melange Books who have given me a publishing home (for the fourth time!); my North Enders critique group members Ellen Birkett Morris, Mary Popham, and Whitney Vale, as well as my middle grade/young adult critique group members Cindy Callaghan, Jane Grimm, and John Gordon; and my terrific beta readers Julie Collard, Connie Bergstein Dow, and Virginia Van Pelt. A shout-out as well to my publicist, Simone Jung of Books Forward, for helping to get the word out about MISSING MOM.
Of course, the person who makes it all possible is Alan, the love of my life, who remains my first reader and encourager-in-chief.
Feeling so thankful.
