Home Alone (Well, Sort Of!)

For the first time in many years, my husband and I spent Christmas at home alone—no dinner guests, relatives visiting us, or out-of-town visits to loved ones. For a few days before Christmas, I did get to see my NYC grandkids in Pittsburgh where they were visiting their other grandparents. It was wonderful to get to see them, but I returned home on Christmas Eve to celebrate with my sweet homebody husband.

I have to say that as much as I’m crazy about our extended family, I absolutely loved being home alone with my sweetheart on Christmas day. It was so relaxing and peaceful. We sat by the fire as we opened our gifts to one another. Our gifts weren’t fancy, but they came from the heart. My husband, whose hobby is cooking (a miracle that I don’t weigh 400 pounds because he’s a really good cook), fixed us an amazing dinner. I watched one of my favorite holiday movies, Christmas in Connecticut, and worked on our holiday cards (late again, so they became New Year’s cards!). I thought about how lucky we were to still really enjoy just being together after all these years.

I know our “home alone” Christmas wouldn’t appeal to everyone, but as two introverts, sometimes we’ve found it so nice just to “stop out” and savor our time together.

My husband told me it was his “favorite Christmas ever.”

Feeling incredibly grateful.

Aw, this is lovely! I like how you two both appreciate the fact that you’re introverts; it’s so nice winding up with your own kind who GETS what a Perfect Holiday can be. 🙂
